Glentunnel was once named Surveyors Gully. The town was associated with coal mines, potteries and brickworks. You will find remnants from these and at the museum and as you wander the township. There is a winding river (Waikirikiri) on the edge of the camp, great for the walkers and there is the golf course almost next door
